Perfect Puffins!

I can't believe we are in week 3 already. everyone is so settled and playing and learning beautifully.

Unfortunately I have been poorly this week (as have many of Puffin and Kingfisher class) but I have spoken to Louise and Miss Turner and our little Puffins have been perfect!

Puffins have started to learn their first single sounds (phonemes) s, a, t, p and i. They have learnt to recognise the sound by sight, it's written form (grapheme) they have learnt the Jolly Phonics action that goes with this and they have practised forming these letters. They have also been introduced to the tricky words (I & the) I will go through all of this and much more when I see you at our meeting at 2.30 on Monday 27th September (on the playground-please bring a chair). In maths, the children have been looking at recognising amounts to 5 by sight. The children have also been busy sorting objects, a great way to understand numbers which will support your child's understanding of number patterns and much more as the year progresses.

We have started our RE lessons and we have spent some time introducing 'God' and what we know and what we are going to learn over Autumn 1.

Our Pufflings (preschool children) have also been busy learning through play, they've been on a listening walk and done lots of counting through songs and games. They also enjoyed visiting our school library and along with the Puffins, chosen a new book for our classes book corner.

PE, yoga and Forest School has been enjoyed by all and everyone seems to be thoroughly enjoying being so active.

I can't wait to see the children next week, I've really missed them and I look forward to meeting you at the Phonics meeting on Monday. Have a great weekend :)

Another fantastic week in Puffin Class!

We've had another great week in Puffin Class. We have continued working really hard on our class routines, behaviours and expectations and everyone is getting really good at 'choose it, use it, put it away'. Everyone is also being so kind to one another which is such an amazing trait to have.

Puffins have been spending some time recapping on Phase 1 phonics which concentrates on listening to sounds in the environment, making loud and quiet sounds, matching sounds to animals and listening to words that rhyme. Puffins have started to play some maths games which has been focused around counting, making sure it is slow and reliable. We've also enjoyed time learning about each others families and we created some beautiful self portraits. All of this while playing lots and completing the Reception Baselines. WOW!! A Fantastic week.

Pufflings have been playing similar games to the Puffins such as environmental walks and musical games, lots of number songs and learning through play.

PE and yoga has been fantastic again and Liam has been super impressed with everyone. Forest school was also lots of fun and Miss Wones has been so proud of how well the Preschool and Reception children have settled in.

We would like to start offering Junk Modelling to the children so please can we ask that if you have any clean carboard, boxes (no bigger than a cereal box), lids, things that can be remade into new creations, please could you leave anything you have under the table on the playground where you collect your child by Friday 24th September. We will let you know once we run out and need more! Many thanks

Have an amazing weekend :)

What an amazing first week in our Early Years Class!

Wow, what a week we've had!

We have achieved so much in such a short space of time. Reception children have been in full time all week and lots of preschool children have stayed for a whole day. We have been busy exploring our new environment, making new friends, playing, creating, using the parachute and so much more.

We are so proud of our Puffins (Reception) and Pufflings (Preschool).

On a personal note, I've had an amazing first week, it has been a pleasure to join Hickling School and get to know all of your wonderful children and the amazing team at Hickling.

Few Reminders

Please don't forget fresh water bottles every day and appropriate clothing for the weather.  Thursday is our PE day, so please come in PE kit and Friday is our Forest School Day, so please come in old clothes but arms and legs need to be covered. I will send a letter out soon regarding the new Early Years Framework and also a letter regarding reading books, tag words etc. Any questions please feel free to ask me before or after school.

Enjoy your weekend :)

Our final week together!

I can't believe a whole year has gone by since Puffin Class was created. What an amazing year it has been. We've had so many amazing...
