Seeds and planting !

This week has been a glorious week filled with lots of learning and new friendships.

In Phonics Puffins have been looking at the digraphs and trigraphs ou and ow and ie and igh. We have been reading lots of words and sentences as well as writing words with these sounds. We learnt to read the tricky words 'any' and 'many' and spelling the tricky word 'only'.

In Phonics Pufflings have been listening to the initial sounds in words.

In Maths Puffins have been focusing on numbers beyond 10. We've been doing lots of counting forwards and backwards as well as looking at how to represent those numbers using ten frames, numicon and lots more.

In Maths Pufflings have been concentrating on 2D shapes. They have been looking at what makes a triangle a triangle etc.

In topic we have started our new book called 'Jack and the Jelly bean stalk' and we had lots of discussions about plants and what they need to grow. We talked about things that we could grow and made a list of things that we would need. We then planted our own sunflowers and we're going to see how tall they get. We have also been to the barn to collect some seeds ready to plant at school.

We've also been very busy practising our maypole dance ready for next weeks performance.

A short but busy few days :)

Welcome back to everyone. We hope you had a great Easter with your families.

What a busy two days it has been with lots of new preschool children starting at Hickling. It has been so lovely to see all the children welcoming the new children with such kindness and support.

We've been busy practising some maypole dancing and so much more. It was a glorious day for Forest School and it was wonderful to see our new preschool children so eager, engaged and confident in their new surroundings.

Easter celebrations

We started our week with a truly fabulous parent Easter craft afternoon.  Everyone had so much fun under the blue skies and everyone commented on how nice it was to all be together.

We then had our amazing Easter Service at the church where the Kingfishers and Puffins (and Pufflings) sang and read poems beautifully. The children made all the adults extremely proud-well done.

We then had a very busy week of crafts and the children decorated their Easter baskets ready for the Easter hunt. Everyone went home with a basket of goodies and smiles on their faces.

What an amazing half term it has been. We can't believe that we only have the Summer term left. We hope you have a great Easter with your families and look forward to seeing you on Thursday 21st April (we have an INSET day on Wednesday 22nd).

Our final week together!
