Final week...

WOW! Where did the first half term go.. I can't believe how quickly it has flown by!

Our final week was a quiet one but we still managed to cram in lots of learning and fun, everyone has shown true resilience.

In our phonics we have been consolidating the sounds we have learnt by playing sound bingo and reading lots of words, everyone has worked really hard on their blending. We have also been busy practising name writing using the correct letter formation. In maths we have continued to work on subitising to 6 and finding lots of ways to represent 1,2 and 3 eg on dice, bead strings, numicon, dominos and so much more. In topic we finished our story of ''The Three Little Pigs' and we used lots of adjectives to describe the pig and the wolf. In our class collective worship, we learnt about the story of Joseph and his technicolour coat, the children made their own multicoloured coats using tissue paper, they really took their time on getting them just right!

We also made some scrummy chocolate chip cookies for the whole school. The children insisted on taste testing the chocolate chips before we put them into the dough....just to check they were ok! Whilst we were busy baking we heard the geese outside and rushed to see them, it was quite a sight.

We also had time to plant some lovely pansies out of the front of the school, we thought they would put a smile on everyone's faces. We also thoroughly enjoyed spending some time with the Kingfisher class.

I hope you have an amazing half term. I look forward to seeing you all on Monday 1st November, please don't forget to bring your child's wallet in on Monday or Tuesday so we can check their word box and tricky words. Many thanks :)

A Topsy Turvy Week...

It has been a very strange week in Puffin Class, we have missed everyone who could not be in and hope that they are all safe and well.

Puffins have learnt the new sounds l, f, b, and j. They have also learnt the tricky words we and was. We have been reading words with all these sounds and together we have been writing some.

In Maths we have been working hard with our subitising to 6, lots of the children are really good at this now. We have also been representing numbers using lots of different items eg coins, numicon, dice, dominos, playing cards and lots more. We have also worked hard of recognising numbers and matching them to a group of objects with the same amount.

In Topic we have been reading the traditional tale 'The Three Little Pigs' we've spent time talking about the characters, the setting, what the pigs and the wolf are like and we've had lots of fun acting out the story.

In our class collective worship we have talked about the Bible story 'Noah's Ark' and we discussed that it is important to trust people. God said that Noah should trust him and to show that he was trustworthy he made the rainbow which appeared once the flood had gone. We coloured rainbows and made a beautiful picture of all the animals that went into the ark.

I was lucky this week and I went into school on Thursday and I got to see how fantastic the children are in PE and yoga, it was so much fun.

On Friday Mrs Butcher had all the children doing a carousel of Autumnal activities, it sounded like they had a great day.

Enjoy your weekend and stay safe.

Harvest Festivities :)

Wow, what a week of lovely things. We hope you loved watching our Harvest Assembly at Hickling Church as much as we enjoyed performing it. We had so much fun and it was lovely to see lots of smiling faces.

Puffins have been busy in phonics learning the sounds; m, d, g, o, and u along with the tricky words 'me' and 'we'. We have been reading CVC words with these sounds in and practising really hard with our blending e-g s-a-t = sat. In Maths we have concentrated on patterns, patterns in body percussion, musical instruments, in sequencing autumn objects and different fruits. We had lots of fun with this.

In topic we have continued with our book and we've been discussing where the Everywhere bear went in the story. We then discussed where our school was and where lots of the children lived. We talked about places you might find in Hickling e.g. the church, houses, horse riding stables etc. We then used google maps to locate Hickling and discussed what we saw and we followed our route from the school to the Church.

Pufflings have also been busy listening to sounds and adjusting the volume to loud and quiet. In their maths session, the Pufflings have also concentrated on patterns and been finger painting snakes with patterns and even some repeating patterns. PE and yoga were great fun. In yoga, the children focused on their breathing, they used objects to help them with this.

Everyone has worked really hard and we are all so proud of your lovely children.

Autumn is here!

Today's forest school adventures included learning a new game, which we quickly got the hang of and wanted to play over and over again.  We also looked at the autumn leaves starting to carpet our woodland floor and some of us decided to make leaf crowns and become queens and kings of the forest!  We made a castle complete with a tea room!

I wonder what next week will bring...

Lots of singing! :)

We've had a great week in Puffin Class! We've been super busy; playing, learning and having lots of fun with our friends!

Puffins (Reception) have been taught the sounds n, c, k,  e, h , r. We have learnt the tricky words 'he' and 'she'. In Maths we have been comparing amounts, size, height, capacity and length. In topic we have continued with our book 'The Everywhere Bear' and we talked about the title, the author and the illustrator. We looked at some of the illustrations and thought about what we knew and what we wondered. We talked about what we would do if we lost something, the children came up with some fantastic ideas. We've finished our Reception Baseline Assessments and everyone worked really hard. All children have a book to read in school and books are available for you to take home in the foyer at the front of the school (from 8am). Thank you for the parents who could make the parent meeting, if you could not attend and wanted to discuss anything, please let me know. With regards to what is going home, we have decided to stick with no book bags but your child will have an A4 named plastic wallet (which is wipeable) where word boxes and tricky words will be placed. We will continue to do our reading records on Tapestry rather than in a book. So, we will record a 'Reading Record' observation and when you share a book with your child, comment underneath it as part of any ongoing dialogue. The following week when I hear your child read again, I will start a new observation.

Pufflings, as part of their Phase 1 phonics (environmental sounds) have been listening to lots of different sounds and working out what they could be, matching animals to animal sounds. In their maths input they have been comparing amounts using the language more and less/fewer whilst playing skittles and throwing bean bags into hoops. We have all  been very busy learning our Harvest songs, we think you are going to love the songs!

Forest school on Friday was amazing, lots of grass, mud, flying streamers, rope bridges, stories and much more!

Reminders;

Please leave any junk modelling in the box under the table (on the entrance playground).

Please collect a book from the Puffin box in the mornings if you haven't already.

Please come and see me in the mornings or email me if you have any questions. :)

Many thanks, have a great weekend.

Our final week together!

I can't believe a whole year has gone by since Puffin Class was created. What an amazing year it has been. We've had so many amazing...
