This week in Puffins we have moved on from Dinosaurs, Mary Anning and Dorset to look at a new book 'The Big Picture Atlas' where we started looking at Antarctica and animals that might live in Antarctica. We learnt that leopard seals, the blue whale and lots of penguins lived there. We also learnt that seven different penguins lived in Antarctica. We were very lucky to see some pictures taken at Antarctica of penguins and seals. At the end of the week the Puffins made some penguins out of clay, we are waiting for the clay to dry before we paint them. Pufflings also made the rest of the class some banana cakes which were yummy!
In Phonics Puffins have been looking at the short vowel sounds and learning that sometimes the consonant doubles eg clapping, missing, hopping, dinner, rubber.
In Phonics Pufflings have been listening and repeating sounds made with their bodies eg clap clap stomp, clap clap stomp.
In Maths Puffins have looked at numbers bonds to 5. We used 5 objects, hid some underneath a bucket and had some outside the bucket, We then had to work out how many were hiding. Everyone did really well at this. We then moved on to weighing objects, talking about objects that were heavier and lighter and how we knew when looking at the scales. We also talked about what it meant when something balanced.
In Maths Pufflings have been recognising numbers and looking at how to form the numbers using rhymes.
Louise drew a giant dinosaur for the children to decorate. Puffins and Pufflings decorated it using their hands and pieces of collage.
In PE the children used hockey sticks to manoeuvre the ball between the cones, this required lots of concentration - everyone did really well :) Everyone enjoyed some yoga to stretch our bodies and have some quiet time :)
The children had a fabulous time under the blue skies, rolling down hills and playing games with their friends.
